With this week being Mental Health Awareness week, it is a perfect opportunity to discuss both the topic of mental health as well as the small things we can each do in our daily lives to make both our own and other people’s lives just that little bit brighter. Here at The White Ribbon Gifts, we are all about making people smile whether that be through helping someone find that perfect gift for a loved one or even just interacting with our lovely customers and ensuring they always know we are here if they need us.
Protecting your mental health is something that truly is not spoken about enough. Therefore, we have put together a few tips that may help you to either help yourself or somebody else who may be struggling right now.
Check in with those you love regularly. It sounds like a normal thing to text your loved ones daily, however, with everything starting to reopen and life getting busy again, it can become a simple thing that you forget to do. Is there maybe somebody who has not reached out in a while? Maybe they don’t truly seem like themselves? Reach out and ask if they want to go grab a coffee, go for a walk or even from the 17th of May pop round for dinner. It could mean the world to someone!
Self-care should be priority. We all say it, but do we really mean it when we say that we take care of ourselves? Of course, this will be different for everyone. Some people enjoy going for a run, some people enjoy having a hot bath with a face mask and some people enjoy a lazy Saturday afternoon in front of the TV. All of these are incredible options if they work for YOU! There isn’t a one size fits all approach to taking care of yourself so just remember to do something you personally enjoy.
Organise an outing! With the country finally starting to reopen, it is the perfect time to start planning a short get away, a trip to the Coast or even a day trip to somewhere you fancy! This is a perfect way to support other small businesses as well as get out of your regular routine and into a new environment. After months of lockdown, it could be a wonderful opportunity to visit somewhere you love or simply find somewhere new and make some memories!
Organise a pamper day, a BBQ or just something you can do in your house or garden! Some people are not a fan of day trips or simply do not feel comfortable travelling too far under current circumstances. Popping to your local supermarket or into your local town and purchasing some face masks, bath bombs and fuzzy socks to then use at home is a great way to unwind after a long week or even after this past long year! A family BBQ with the weather getting warmer or even a baking day, do something that is different and out of your routine!
